Vastu for the Dining Room

In every house kitchen is always a symbol of good health and after it comes the dining room where all together each member of the house get together and take there meals of all time.

• According to vaastu dining room should be located in the west direction. The other good and preferred directions for the dining room are east and north direction.
• Dining room and Kitchen of the house should always be on the same floor. By saying this we mean that it should not be like this that dining room is on the ground floor and kitchen is on the first floor. Both should be on the same floor.
• Do take care that kitchen and dining room are adjacent to each other and dining room should be at left from the kitchen.
• The entrance of the dining room should be in east, north or west direction. If your dining room is completely a separate room in the house then keep in mind that the entrance of the house and the door of the dining room should not face each other.
• If you are having a dining table in your dining room then make sure that it is either in square or rectangular shape. Avoid any other odd shapes it is never recommended although they are in today's fashion.

• Always have even number of chairs at dining table otherwise it may lead to dispute between family members.
• Place the chairs in such a way that no family member faces south direction while having meal. The chair of the head of the family should be placed such that he faces the east direction while taking the meal. All the other family members can face east,west or north direction while having meal.
• Dining table should not be attached to the wall or fold to the wall.
• Electrical appliances like fridge should be placed in south-east direction. Television should not be placed in the dining room.
• For fitting a washbasin in your dining room the proper place would be in eastern or in northern corner.
• Nature portraits and paintings in the dining room make the atmosphere happy and enhance general pleasure.

Vastu For the Drawing Room

Drawing room or say the living room is always the center of the house, where all the members of the house spend lot of time and which is also used to entertain the guests. Hence everyone wants to decorate their drawing room in the best possible manner with all the furniture and show pieces to look it more and more pretty and beautiful.

Drawing room is not only about looking beautiful but also about the feel and comfort. Vastu Shastra makes confirm that every room or say every part of the house is full of comfort and warmth level that is essential for a good living.

Here are some things that needs to be kept in mind while designing of a drawing room.

Location of the Living room and Furniture

• According to vastu the direction of the living room could be north as well as east. Actually its ideal location depends upon the facing of the house.
• For the west facing house living room could be in the northwest direction. For the house whose facing is towards east or north direction then the living room could be in the northeast direction. For the houses whose facing is towards south then the living room could be in the southeast direction.
• It is advisable to keep only square or rectangular shape furniture. Avoid placing circular, oval or any odd shape furniture.
• Be sure that the movement in the living room should be free without any obstruction.
• All the heavy and weighted items such as the most important furniture of the living room like sofa set must be kept in south or west direction. All the heavy articles or the showcases must be in these direction only.
• Heavy articles such as sofa set can also be placed in east direction but make sure that it should not touch the walls.
• One can also place some indoor plants with small rocks and stones in the southwest direction. It looks very attractive as well as strengthens the southwest direction.
• For center and side tables southeast corner is very beneficial according to Vastu shastra.

• Place the furniture in a way that the head of the family and other senior family members should face north or east while sitting and the guests should face west or south directions respectively.
• If you want to place a TV in the living room you can place it in the southeast direction. Vastu strongly opposes to place the TV in the northeast or the southwest direction.
• Air-conditioner or cooler should be placed in West direction, not in South-east.
• According to the Vastu advice for drawing rooms, there should more of open space in the northern and eastern corners.

Fountains, Aquarium and Paintings in the Living room

• The main water element such as fountains or fish aquarium should be placed in the central north of the living room. If you are having an aquarium then be sure that you are having seven small fishes of one family and two other small fishes of another family.
• The north wall is best where the pictures and paintings can be placed in the living room.
• On the eastern wall you can place a painting of a rising sun.
• On the south and west wall you can put the painting of any animal, mountain or of anything that resembles strength.
• There should not be a photograph of any God in living room or at entrance door.

Color Scheme and Lighting

• Prefer using light colors then dark colors in this living room.
• Never use black or red color in the living room.
• You can use white, yellow, blue or green color in the drawing room.
• Lighting of the living room should be bright. Place the lights towards west direction. Avoid placing lights at the center of the room.
• The door of living room should be in east or north direction. Windows in east or north directions are beneficial.

Vastu For Bathroom

As any other room in the house bathroom is also one of the most important room of the house. One should take care of vastu while building or designing of his/her bathroom.Designing bathroom in the right direction brings peace, joy, and prosperity into the house. Placing bathroom in the wrong direction can create health and financial problems.

According to vastu east portion of the house is considered to be the best portion for the construction of the bathroom. In early days also people took bath facing towards east where sun rays fall on their face and they hymned some mantras for a good morning and a good day. The soft rays from the sun in morning are said to be very beneficial for the health.

Hence, it is always recommended that bathroom must have adequate windows so that the fresh air of the morning may let in also the fresh light. North direction is also considered to be good for building bathroom. However the north-east direction must strictly be avoided for the designing of the bathroom as it may cause adverse effect on the health and wealth.

Following are some tips for the designing of the bathroom:-

• Most appropriate direction for the bathroom is always the eastern portion of the house. However the north direction is also considered to be good for building the bathroom.
• North-east direction should strictly be avoided for the bathroom.
• If you are having your bathroom and toilet rooms separatly then the toilet room should not be located in the south-east or the south-west or at the center of the building. The toilet should be at the west or northwest side of the room.
• If you are having combined bathroom and toilet room then it should always be in the west or northwest side of the room. Never have attached bathroom on the northeast side of the room.
• As the location of the bathroom is important equally is the location of bathroom accessories. The tap and shower should always be in the north direction as it helps in the drainage system as water should always drain out from the northeast direction.

• For placing the mirror north direction is suitable.
• Geyser should always be installed in the southeast side of the bathroom.
• The best position for placing the bathtub is the west, east or northeast direction such that head should be placed in the south direction while taking bath.
• The door of the bathroom should always be in the North or east direction. It should not be placed in the south-west corner.
• Septic tank should be in northwest of the house. It should not be in south-east, north-east, north or east directions.
• Washing Machine can be placed in the southeast or the northwest directions.
• Bathroom and toilet should never be built under staircases or near the kitchen.
• The bathroom colors should always be light, as such colors help give a fresh look to the bathroom. White, light blue or pale green are the best choices.
• Always keep the bathroom shiny and clean, as proper hygiene allows flow of positive energy.

Vastu for Chidren's Room

Children are always the life of a home. Every one loves their child more then loving any other else in the home. They are the hub of joy and happiness in a family. Hence an utmost care must be taken while designing of the children's room.

Children's room if designed according to the vastu leads them to a better life as well as provides them more sharp mind and hence the thinking and grasping power. Placing children's room in the right direction provides them with mental peace and an internal happiness and also with more physical power.

• Children's room should always be placed in the west direction. Apart from this, north-east, north-west or south-east direction can also be used for constructing the kid's room. South-west direction should strictly be avoided for constructing child's room.
• Mirror should strictly be avoided in the child's room.
• The location of the bed in the child's room must be in south-west corner of the room. Head should be in the south or east direction only.
• The door should not be exactly opposite to the bed of the room.
• Furniture in the child's room should never be placed in the center of the room.
• South or the west direction is suitable for placing the Almirah or the cabinet in the room.
• The study desk should be placed such that the child faces the east, north or the north-east corner while studying. East is the most recommended direction for this as it paves way for high concentration.

• Avoid placing TV or Computer's in children's room. But if necessary, it's recommended to place the TV in the south-east direction and computer in north direction of the room.
• In children's room up-lighters must be used in south-east corner as it is good for health and generates positive energy. Very sharp or bright light such as spot lights should strictly be avoided in the child's bedroom as it creates mental stress.
• The door of the children's room should not be exactly opposite to the bed of the child. It could be at any angle from the bed.
• As in our earlier topic about home vastu we have discussed the impact and importance of color in our lives and on our mood. Similarly while designing child's bedroom care must be taken related to color scheme used in his/her room. Green color is considered to be the best for the child's bedroom as its the symbol of peace and prosperity and hence brings freshness together with increasing brain power. White color can also be used in the child's bedroom.

Vastu For Master Bedroom

Bedroom is always a place where at the end of the day when a person is extremely tired, exhausted and full of whole day tension and stress likes to take some rest with full peace of mind as well as of body so that he can get entirely relaxed and calm. It is a place where you wind up all your worries and tensions and get relaxed with your pleasant memories.

So, it becomes essentially necessary that your bedroom must be designed with utmost care keeping in mind about the vastu tips related to bedroom. Each and every small thing related to bedroom effects your health as well as your life may it be positioning of your head while sleeping or it may be the color of the bedroom or the shape of the bedroom. Everything matters a lot. Hence designing of the bedroom according to vastu becomes very necessary.

Following are the few tips that must be taken into care while designing the Master Bedroom.

• First and foremost important thing that comes into mind while designing of the master bedroom is the direction in which it has to be placed. Master bedroom of the house is always for the head of the House. Hence, the best corner of your house that is recommended for it is the South-West as it represents the element Earth that is, heaviness.
• In this corner only master bedroom must be designed as this is not at all suitable for any other room may it be children room, guest room, dining room, drawing room or prayer room.
• Other bedrooms can be constructed on northern or eastern side of the bedroom.
• While placing the bed care must be taken so that while sleeping one should always place his/her head towards south,east or west direction. South direction is preferably recommended. North direction must always be avoided for placing the head. It is the most unsuitable direction for sleeping.
• Placing head towards north direction always results in nightmares or disturbed sleep.
• Preferred shape for the bedroom is always square or rectangular. Irregular shapes must be strictly avoided.

• The attached bathroom can be in north-west or south-east direction of the bedroom.
• The wooden bed is always preferred in the bedroom. Metal bed should be avoided in the bedroom.
• Almirah must be avoided to be placed in the room. But if necessary then it must be placed in the south-west corner of the room.
• Placing television in the bedroom must also be avoided but if placed then it must be kept in the south-east direction of the room. Always avoid keeping the Television set in front of the bed as it works like the mirror and which is not good for health.
• The door of the bedroom should be in the east or the north direction. The suitable direction for the windows is also east and the north direction.
• Colors have great role in our lives. They affects our mind and changes our mood. Light colors are always recommended for the bedroom's. Dark colors must be avoided in the bedroom. Light colors such as light-pink, light-rose, yellow, green, and blue. Avoid using black and red color in the bedroom.
• Yellow or white marbles should never be used in the bedroom.
• Lighting is the essential part of the bedroom. According to Vastu an up-lighter in south-east direction is good. Too light or too bright light both are not recommended for the bedroom.
• Do not display pictures of war, cruelty, sadness, single bird, any animal and wild animals in bedroom.
• Also do not place the pictures of god or goddess in the bedroom. The suitable place for these is always the 'Puja Room'.
• The mattress used on the double bed should be a single one.

Before we move forward while discussing about vastu tips you all must know the directions of your house. Keep the magnetic compass in center of your home and see where does north, east, north-east etc. directions lies. This is important as vastu is all about placing the right things at your work place in the right direction. And if you don’t know even the directions at your place you can never build up your place according to vastu.


Following are the few tips that could easily be taken care while constructing or renewing your living or work place.

• Be careful that no heavy bodies should be kept in north-east of the building such as overhead tanks or staircases. It is considered to be a big vastu defect. If possible South-east direction should also be avoided for the overhead tanks as it may cause loss of wealth and there can also be adverse effects on health. The best direction for these overhead tanks is North-west.
• If you are having underground water tank or water sump then the best position for digging the sump is north-east direction as it brings health, wealth and prosperity.
• Make sure there is proper ventilation sources in your living place. Cross ventilation always helps fresh air to float in the environment that helps to release stress.
• There should be a bright light source on the main door or say entrance of your home.
• Even numbers of doors at your living place is always preferred and recommended.
• Placing a television set into your bedroom is a wrong practice and should strictly be avoided.
• Do not place any plant into your bedroom.
• Mirror should not be placed in front of the bed.
• Avoid keeping mirrors into kitchen.
• The shape of the rooms should not be of oval or circle.
• The property that you are owing should be of square or rectangular shape.
• One must not plant any thorny plants inside the house like cactus or any other that consist of thorns.
• Also plants like Banyan tree or a Peepal tree is not recommended to be planted into the campus of living place.
• Do not use separate mattresses and bedsheets.
• Brooms and mops should be kept out of the sight of the kitchen.
• Place a happy family picture in the living room.
• Also you can place a bright sunrise picture on the southern wall of the living room.
• Bathroom and toilet doors must be kept closed most of the time.
• The door of the bedroom should not be in front of the bathroom or toilet.
• Windows of the living place are preferred to be opened in the outward direction.
• At the front door of your house there shouldn’t be the dining room.
• The gate of the lift should not be in front of your main door.
• The most recommended direction for the kitchen is the south-east direction of the home. Next north-west corner of the home is also considered to be good for the kitchen.
• The gas stove should also be placed in the south-east corner.
• House furniture should always be set in the form of circle, square or octagon.
• Latrine seat must be kept facing towards northern south.
• Never wear torn cloths, withered flowers, as these prevents the goddess Lakshmi entering into the home.
• The children’s room should always be constructed in the north-west corner.
• Store rooms if needed should always be constructed in the southern part of your home.
• Stairs should be clockwise.
• The maximum construction should be done in South, West and south-west portion of the plot.
• A water body should be placed in the south-east corner of the house.
• Pictures of any war or anger shouldn’t be placed in the house.
• The best corner for the prayer room is considered to be the north-east corner of the house.

What is Vaastu Shastra

Since last few years everyone has been talking a lot about VASTU SHASTRA. But what is this vastu shastra. Vastu is actually a science that considers the interplay of five basic forces of the nature that are:- Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Space. According to vastu shastra world comprises of five basic elements and those are earth,fire, air, water and space and all these five together are considered as panch maha bhoota. Our body is also composed of these five basic elements. Vastu shastra helps us to make a proper balance of these things in our lives so as to take the most advantageous part of it.

Shastra means Ved that directly relates to the word knowledge. So we can say that vastu shastra is nothing else but the knowledge of about how these panch maha bhoota work together or correlate together to generate any postive or negative energy. Vastu shastra is a traditional hindu system of design based on directions that are north, south, east, west, north-east, north-west, south-east, south-west. Initially this system was followed only for designing and building of temples. But slowly and slowly as the people realized the benefits of following vastu shastra they started designing their living and work place also according to vastu shastra. By following proper vastu shastra it does influence our deeds, luck, behavior and other basics of the life.

Vastu shastra can also be referred as the ancient mystic science for designing and building and as well as living style of people.

All these five elements are inter-related with each other. A person can thus improve his living and life by properly building his place keeping in mind the effectiveness of these five natural sources. Vastu shstra combines these five elements of the nature and take advantage of the benefits possed by the elements so as to provide good living and working enviornment thereby facilitating spiritual well-being and paving the way for enhanced health, wealth, prosperity and happiness.

Vastu shastra can be applied at all levels may be small or large. By saying this we mean that whether you are thinking of designing a single room flat or designing an entire company in both cases following vastu shastra will be proven advantageous.
